This pierced brass decorative element from France was originally the cover of a bassinoire from the 1600s. A bassinoire is a device where hot coals are inserted into a vented receptacle which is passed under sheets, warming a bed before use. These metal vessels would have been affixed to a long pole, allowing a person to use them without fear of burning themselves on the coals.
Our bassinoire cover has a amazing vert de gris patine due to the fact that the previous owner used it as a decorative accessory outside. This piece is beautifully decorated in a wonderful folk art way. In the center you see a head en profile around this you see a bird, a baroque basket with fruit, a flower and a baroque curl .
